Why does there have to be such bullshit with what gender some people are?

Male and female. How fucking hard is that? There’s no half and half, quarter and half, no gender, swapping gender; all of that is crap. You’re born a male, you stay a male. You’re born a female, you stay a female. Act however you want though. Be super feminine, or super masculine, regardless of gender. Do whatever makes you happy. But gender is something no one can change. And not just genitalia and shit. All the little differences between males and females. As minor as they are. Argablargadargr.

Oh my god

How is gender so sacred that you can’t change it

People bleach their hair and get plastic surgery all the time and no one complains

I don’t see the difference really

Whatever makes you happy and comfortable you should be able to do.

It’s not sacred, it is what it is.

And yes, people get plastic surgery all the time. But that doesn’t change what you really are. Just what people see you as. Like that man who gave birth. Guess what? They were really a woman that had surgery.

To me, gender is a bit of a social construct.

What you’re referring to when you talk about someone’s penis or vagina is his or her physical sex, which is determined by his or her genitals. A person’s gender identity is how they view themselves. Within my society and likely yours, the most common belief is that there are only two genders, and these are determined by a person’s genitals. Some people are now rejecting this and viewing these as separate issues and with more than only two options. For example, for the Bugis of Indonesia — and possibly more? — it’s acceptable to identify as one of any five genders (male, female, bisu, chalabai, chalalai) which include trans* options for gender identity not readily available to people in my society.

To insist upon gender identity coinciding with one’s genitals, especially when these are limited to only two options, can produce a lot of complications. For example, there are intersexed people whose genitals physically don’t fall under male or female. Furthermore, many intersexed people have the genitals of one sex but the chromosomes or hormones of the other sex. (While nowhere near to the same extent as some people, I sort-of fall under this category because of a weird hormonal imbalance/disorder. I have breasts and a vagina, and I identify and present as female, but I have an overabundance of male hormones and would maybe have mixed results if I were to take a test to determine my sex.) Basically, I wonder if your genitals don’t match your insides, in cases of chromosomal abnormalities and the like, which is more accurate? Which should one accept as his or her sex? And how does that affect one’s gender?

While this may upset some of my trans* friends, I would be the first to admit that some gender shenanigans do legitimately offend me. Some people use their gender identity to make themselves a ~special snowflake~, and I don’t think it’s right to appropriate something of this nature in the pursuit of attention. Still, if someone has a penis and wants to be called by a feminine pronoun, I’ll play along; it takes nothing from me to be kind toward someone in this way by respecting their preferences. For some, the request to be addressed as a specific pronoun may be as casual as mentioning their preferred nickname, but for people suffering legitimate dysphoria and anxiety due to their gender identity not matching their physical sex, this can be a significant issue and one I hope to treat with respect.

I realize you’re probably just expressing discontent and frustration with something you don’t agree with, so you maybe won’t even read this response or care what it says if you do. But I thought maybe it would help you understand why people feel the way they do about gender, even if you don’t agree.

I’ve gotta say, you guys.

This is my favorite fandom that I’ve ever been in.

FUCKING FINALLY. THANK YOU.

My bestie and I spend all day talking about how great we think the fandom is, but people constantly bitch about how much they hate the Homestuck fandom, and I just don’t see it at all. We’re awesome!!
